along on a 97 day, 1,300 mile paddling journey through the Inside passage, from
Skagway, Alaska to Seattle, Washington.
Josh Kelley and JJ Thomas built a pair of Pygmy Cohos to paddle on this demanding journey. A inspiring paddling story with plenty of humor and a little drama. Paddler Magazine raves, "The best feature film on kayaking produced in the last decade.". Click here to see the trailer: Paddle to Seattle Trailer

Pinguino Sport
We are excited to offer our first recreational
kayak design, the Pinguino Sport . The Pinguino Sport is a great choice for paddlers who want the
quickness, lightweight, and joy of paddling a Pygmy, but would prefer a roomier
cockpit and greater initial stability. The Pinguino Sport is a perfect choice for fishing, photography, bird
watching, or a relaxing day on the water. Pinguino is Spanish for penguin.
Like the penguin, the Pinguino's short and broad appearance belies its grace,
quickness, and agility on the water.
Design Features The Pinguino Sport offers our multi-chine hull design, to maximize efficiency and stability, with a raked stern and swede form shape, it is a unique design in the Pygmy line up. At 13' and 36lbs cartopping and carrying to the water is a cinch. The Pinguino Sport accelerates quickly, and is nearly effortless to hold at cruising speeds. It tracks solidly, but thanks to its shorter length is quick to turn. The Pygmy four panel deck design, with recess rear cockpit, brings the sheer of the boat down and in, so even with a 25.5" beam, the Pinguino Sport is still comfortable to paddle, even for those with a steeper paddle stroke. The standard cockpit opening size for the Pinguino is 19"x36". It can also be ordered with a 17"x33" cockpit opening for smaller paddlers or those wanting to outfit the boat for more extreme paddling environments.
A fun design for all levels of paddler The Pinguino Sport took its maiden voyage at the 2008 West Coast
Sea Kayak Symposium, where paddlers of all skill levels were able to give it a
try. Feedback was excited and positive. It was obvious from the smiles
that the Pinguino Sport was loved by everyone who paddled her.
Choosing a Pinguino Sport The Pinguino Sport's cockpit will fit a wide range of adult size paddlers. Paddlers hoping to find a bit more space in the cockpit, compared to an average touring kayak, will be pleased. Paddlers with long legs and larger shoe sizes will be especially appreciative of the 13.25" deck height. Use her on open saltwater coastlines, bays, lakes, and meandering rivers. An excellent choice for fishing and photography. Though the Pinguino Sport is a recreational kayak at heart, she has the soul of a sea kayak, so don't be afraid to take her out in the surf. The Pinguino Sport's size makes her an excellent choice for stowing on the deck of a larger boat for day paddling from a "mothership".
Borealis XL
Our New XL Design The Borealis XL design compliments our line of multi chine hull shapes, combining the raked stern and sweeping sheer line of a Greenland style kayak, with the performance and beauty of our famous multi chine kayaks.

Design Features The Borealis XL is a high volume solo touring kayak suited for paddlers weighing 230-300lbs. At 17', with a 25.5" beam, 13" deck height, and extra large 19"x36" cockpit the Borealis provides the volume, stability, and ease of entry that bigger paddlers need.
More comfortable fit for everyone Originally designed for heavier paddlers, we were surprised to discover what a pleasure the Borealis is to paddle for anyone wanting a roomier more comfortable boat with increased stability for a more relaxed feeling on the water. Regular sized paddlers wanting more foot and leg room will love the Borealis XL. It's 13" deck height gives you more foot room and allows your knees to be bent more. Our experience is that this sitting position can reduces foot and leg cramping. Pygmy's signature cambered decks cut away the sheer enabling you to maintain a high paddle angle and ergonomic stroke, despite her extra width. For regular sized folks she is available with our standard 17"x33" cockpit size, and can be fitted with our new keyhole knee braces and the Spirit Line molded foam seat, with hip pads.
High Volume and High Performance John's new Borealis XL design is by far the most stable solo kayak we manufacture, yet its sophisticated multi chine hull design has only 2.8% more wetted surface than our highly rated, award winning Arctic Tern 17' design. This means you get the benefits of a dramatic increase in initial stability, more space for gear, and a roomier, more comfortable cockpit without sacrificing
Great for long distance touring High performance, high volume, and high comfort equals a great boat for long distance touring. If you want to carry lots of stuff with ease and comfort the Borealis XL should be considered a great choice for ocean touring and extended camping.
Coho Hi Volume
Our best selling
Coho is now available in a high deck design
Perfect for
paddlers with long legs, and a large shoe size (mens 13+), wanting more
space under the deck for comfort on those long paddling days. The Coho Hi
offers the same great performance characteristics found in our popular Coho
standard volume, but with an added 1.5" of deck height.

Performance touring John created the 17'6" Coho with plenty of volume for the gear needed on big trips. Her 23" beam provides good stability when loaded for a long paddle. Excellent buoyancy in bow and stern make her seaworthy for open ocean swell and surf, as well as quiet water. Although the Coho will migrate with you on long adventures, she's so light at 42 pounds that many folks buy her primarily for day use.
Coho Candidates The Coho's high maneuverability appeals to intermediate and advanced paddlers. Do a leaned turn and feel her easy response to your stroke. Her elegant lines and good stability appeal to beginners. Among the fleet of Pygmy kayaks, the majority of test paddlers who come to our shop choose the Coho, the Osprey-Standard, a great general purpose touring boat which tracks a bit stronger than the Coho, or the Arctic Tern, a hard-chine touring boat with good tracking and excellent maneuverability.
